We left off sitting pretty on the top spot in Unlimited AWD after the first day knowing that saturday was truly going to be go fast day for everyone. Continue reading
Global Time Attack Road Atlanta 2016 vol. 1
The last time that we were able to Road Atlanta with Global Time Attack was back in 2014 when we were still in Street class trim, now as the car has undergone numerous changes with aero, tires, chassis we head there in the Unlimited class. With the jump to the higher class comes a barrage of competitors, not only that but Road Atlanta had one of the craziest field of Unlimited Class car in years setting up for a battle royal. Some of the heavy hitters included GST Motorsports, Lyfe Motorsports, Professional Awesome, DBW Motorsports and UMS Tuning.
Starting out with a Bang!

Since Global Time Attack Super Lap Battle ended in November of 2015 we had a new motor to build and improvements to make. First we found that our APR GT-1000 wing has a bit more effect than our old GT-250, so we had to reinforce our wing mount to withstand the forces produced. Continue reading
The Struggle Vol. 10
So now we are in the second week of November 2015 we are working our way towards getting the car complete for Global Time Attack Super Lap Battle. At this time we have already ruled out the idea of actually finishing our aero package to the dismay of Rami (team aerodynamics engineer). Although Wasp Composites was able to build us a brand new and enormous splitter. This was built to counter act the forces that were provided by APR Performance’s GT1000 dual element Swan neck wing.
You can see here the difference in surface area in comparison to the splitter we had been using for the last few years in street class. Wasp through with the use of Rami’s design also integrated replaceable rub strips into the design. Continue reading
The Struggle 2015 Vo.9
The motor is in and it all runs so we should be all in the green correct…. Yea right! Now the fun starts again.
So at this point we decided that we need to pull the motor back out based on some conversations that we had and what might be the problem. We first pulled the motor and swapped out the oil pump and oil pickup being that those are 2 items that could cause issues with oil pressure beside the worst problem of all… The mains…
So after we took the motor out again we went ahead and measured the mains and they were out of tolerances.
So we made the decision to move the spare block, but before we assembled the motor we decided to check the main clearances. Good thing we did being that it needed a align bore. So we get the motor back up to Outfront to get this all completed oh and did I tell you that it is now October and Super Lap is right around the corner!
But before we get all of that done why not take a trip to SEMA!
Here is some great Time Attack family!
Great dinners with all the family.

Now we get back to the shop and get the car up and running!

Gil and Oscar spent a lot of sleepless nights getting this ready just in time! Without a doubt the weeks leading up to SLB have been some of the most stressful ever with this team! And it hasn’t even begun to start to bring the completely sleepless nights yet!
More to come…
Thank you to all my sponsors and supporters!
The Struggle 2015 Vol. 8
At some point I somehow completely forgot to mention all the time and effort that Gil spent installing all of our AEM Electronics gauges and AQ-1 Data logging system. We were really looking to find a way to give us more feedback and actual data after each run. That accompanied by my feedback and video footage would give us a great idea of what the car is actually doing on track.
Here is a close up of the indiviual gauge.
We also installed a new DCCD controller called MapDCCD, it allows for us to have much more control over our center differential.
The AQ-1 itself is generally hidden but Rami will be utilizing this unit every time we go out on track. We developed 2 wire harnesses so that we can log 2 separate systems, one being an Aero harness and the other being a Engine harness.
This is the overall layout of the interface that I get to utilize when I go out. Without a doubt Gil did an amazing job completing the new information center.
Now some of you might be thinking hmm that’s a lot of gauges to watch but they are all very important when you are trying to complete a lap in the time that we are and keep the motor all in one piece. Hopefully, later on in the cars lifespan it will also adapt AEM Electronics new dash being that it is visually astonishing. Seeing it at SEMA I instantly wanted someone to take my money!

The Struggle 2015 Vol. 7
Keep in mind that we have now changed all of our original game plans of really competing in Redline Time Attack and Global Time Attack season and are just hoping to make some events to get some testing in before Super Lap Battle, but we were still wanting to make the largest Subaru event of the year Subiefest. Subiefest is in September and at this time in the build it is end of July or beginning of August. We all of a sudden came into contact with Lost Art Liquids an e-liquids company aka subie vape madness. They wanted to come on board with our team and we were glad to have them! But this meant that we were about to have to make a few changes…. And by few I mean a lot!
Here is how the trailer started.
So the first item on the agenda was to refresh the cars livery, I turned to Advanced Printing and Graphics (APG) to come up with a new design incorporating their logo as well as all of our other sponsors. This is an emense task and I must admit not that much fun. Along with the livery, new shirts, a canopy and then finally a trailer wrap would all need to be completed. But before the trailer could be wrapped I had to go and find one and buy it! It is still a work in progress but just like everything else we tried to make the trailer be a place where we could go to get out of the elements, store and be a home away from home.
The trailer wrap was one of those items that just about didn’t get done… It was finished at 4:30 in the morning the day of Subiefest. Big props to the guys at APG for staying up all night long and getting it done in time so that we could rep it at the event.
Now along with the trailer they were also taking the time to make our new crew shirts and T shirts, helping us rep all the companies that help us every step of the way.
Now Oscar puts on his crew shirt for the first time being the new recruit.
The car itself was something that we were all eagerly awaiting to be completed for multiple reasons, one being that we were excited to see the new livery but another being that we needed to get it back so that we could get it back to the shop and get it running as we were really hoping to be able to drive it at Subiefest.
Now they finished the main wrap but being our timeline we had to get the car back to the shop and get working on it. Luckily for us APG was gracious enough to come to Yimi Sport Tuning and apply the rest of the decals.
Now here is where things get a little interesting the car at this time had yet to be started and with less than a week to go until Subiefest 2015 our subie hadn’t even been started yet! The guys worked all night and day the week leading up to it and remember all these guys have a day job and Paul owns Yimi Sport Tuning!
The finished product was amazing! It really sets the car apart from all others and makes the car impossible for photographers to miss!
The team really came together at the last moment staying up all night long and then working all day at Subiefest which is probably why we were all wearing sunglasses. Although the car did not get any dyno time so we were unable to actually drive it on the track but we were able to start it and drive it into its location! Although the car was now a running driving thing…. We had an issue and that issue was low oil pressure…
To be continued…

The Struggle 2015 Vol. 6
As the motor is finished by the guys of Flat Performance Yimi Sport starts prepping the rest of the parts that will be needed in order for it to fire up. Obviously one of the first things needed would be fuel, so once again we called upon Aeromotive to provide us with the best fueling parts in the industry. We snagged up one of their new X1 regulator, a Y splitter, a bunch of AN fittings, and a new Eliminator Fuel pump stepping up from their A1000 fuel pump the year before.
As well as fuel air is essential so we contacted Skunk 2 Racing to increase our throttle body diameter to match our inter cooler piping that Paul Leung of Yimi Sport Tuning was going to start on once the motor was installed. Fitment and instructions on the skunk2 unit was perfect and we popped it on with ease.
We picked up the biggest and baddest clutch Advanced Clutch Technology (ACT) has to offer for a Subaru! We were using a slightly lower version the year before and needed to upgrade to hold the power we were looking to make. Their monolock is something everyone should have and is now included in their kits.
At this point we decided that we wanted to go ahead and do a fuel cell in the car for the added safety as well to shave weight off the car… Soooo we started hacking away at the car again.

This put Paul into hyperdrive working on a mounting solution that would be as light as possible and yet strong enough to hold the weight of the fuel. We went with a Pyrotect 9.5 gallon tank to ensure that our fuel would continually flow to our engine.

Speaking of fuel flowing into the engine, we have been using Fuel Injector Clinic 2150cc injectors for the last 2 seasons and before that a smaller set of their injectors. They have been highly reliable and install perfectly everything. One item that Paul continually gripes about when people come in for tunes off the street is that they will have some off the wall brand or just some injectors that are not flowing or have poor spray characteristics.
Thank you to all my sponsors and supporters!

The Struggle 2015 Vol. 5
At this point during the 2015 build we finally starting seeing some very important items start to show up one being our closed deck block from Outfront Motorsports as well as our new spare transmission. Many people believe the 6 speeds are indestructible but let me tell you they are not! I have managed to kill 3 of them in the last 2 years, 2 of the 3 times it was 4th gear and 2 of the 3 times were at Buttonwillow Raceway.
The short block came assembled from Outfront with a Scat Crankshaft, ACL Bearings, Manley turbo tuff rods, and JE Pistons. We were very excited to get it in the car and crank it over for the first time but first we had a lot of assembly to do. Gil and Oscar got started by assembling the heads that SoCal Porting did an amazing job making sure we would be able to flow as much as possible! They then started to add the Supertech Valvetrain and GSC Power Division S2 cams.
Now although we have yet to have any Headgaskets issues to date with the car we decided to utilize Outfronts 1/2 ARP headstuds, this was decided based on the application which was going to be a Subaru making around 600WHP. The year prior we were using the ARP 625+ with the JE Pro Seal Gaskets and they held together all year without an issue. This time using the 1/2 and the Pro Seals we expected no issues whatsoever.
Now as we dove deeper into the engine build other items started t show up like our Killer B Motorsports Oil Pan, Pickup, Shift Knob, and water neck. As you might be able to tell by that little list Killer B has a great selection of parts that greatly help the reliability and performance of any Subaru.
As you might notice from the picture above the oil pump is not the standard silver. It is an Orbitz oil pump, we have been using them on the car for the past 3 seasons to perfection which go great with our ACL Race Bearings.

Flat Performance got the long block all put together at Yimi Sport and ready to slide into the car. This included our Full Race Motorsports exhaust manifold and BorgWarner turbo. After we slap it in the car we will have a few misc parts to put on and then we can crank it over for the first time!!!!

The Struggle 2015 Vol. 4
Some of you keen observers may have noticed that the hood new hood was already on the car… Well ya that happened as well. Thankfully in the background of all the cutting and chopping and wiring and welding Wasp composites was working on our new and much lighter carbon fiber hood. Along with the hood Singular Motorsports and Rami were working on the hood louder design in an effort to ensure that we have the best available airflow and move the most amount of heat out of the engine bay.
These were designed after we did extensive testing on the body to know exactly where we would get the most amount of heat extraction. Some might thing that oh they are just louvers that could not have taken that long… Well let’s just say that we like to ensure that our designs are going to be successful. That is why Rami was the head of this task, he has constantly proven himself in these situations proving to be the best organized as well as the greatest level of detail covering all the angles.
I was lucky enough to have Richard help with the most fun part of the project… Cutting the carbon fiber to fit in the new louvers.
Richard also stuck around to start the next task which was tryin for a 3rd time to add the fender flares. A side note, I attempted to get another set of flares from a dealer online which I asked numerous times about fitment and low and behold they were complete crap. Even better was after I received them and reported back about the poor fitment he then sold them for half price indicating poor fitment but wouldn’t help me out… So screw that guy. This time I finally got we a company that cared about their products fitment and looks. Juggaurnaut Aero Designs came out with a very good looking set of fender flares that are tailored to fit my year (as well as basically any other year or model of Subaru).
Check out those Snap On tools in action!
Occasionally we all start to lose our minds…. The build process is starting to really get to everyone as we are all dying to get back to the track and get on the part where we go fast. Although things are about to take a very interesting turn and then we have to get ready for Subiefest in a hurry!!!
Alex and Oscar on the other hand were just prepping for the new power plant and working on their Fast and the Furious faces.
When the new Full Race Manifold and BorgWarner turbo shows up and people get a little excited!
One thing to note, everyone on this team has a full time day job which means everyone is working on this project voluntarily and without any compensation. Every drop of our free time goes into this and when I say that around May we started to work on the project every Saturday and Sunday every week for 10-14 hours a day. Some are planning, some are building, some are just beating our heads against the wall. But without a doubt each member of the team is giving it their all. I cannot thank them enough or show enough gratitude to them for the amount of energy that they put into this team.
Thank you to all my sponsors and supporters!
