The Struggle 2015 Vol. 8

At some point I somehow completely forgot to mention all the time and effort that Gil spent installing all of our AEM Electronics gauges and AQ-1 Data logging system. We were really looking to find a way to give us more feedback and actual data after each run. That accompanied by my feedback and video footage would give us a great idea of what the car is actually doing on track.

Here is a close up of the indiviual gauge.
We also installed a new DCCD controller called MapDCCD, it allows for us to have much more control over our center differential.

The AQ-1 itself is generally hidden but Rami will be utilizing this unit every time we go out on track. We developed 2 wire harnesses so that we can log 2 separate systems, one being an Aero harness and the other being a Engine harness.

This is the overall layout of the interface that I get to utilize when I go out. Without a doubt Gil did an amazing job completing the new information center.
Now some of you might be thinking hmm that’s a lot of gauges to watch but they are all very important when you are trying to complete a lap in the time that we are and keep the motor all in one piece. Hopefully, later on in the cars lifespan it will also adapt AEM Electronics new dash being that it is visually astonishing. Seeing it at SEMA I instantly wanted someone to take my money!

The Struggle 2015 Vol. 6

As the motor is finished by the guys of Flat Performance Yimi Sport starts prepping the rest of the parts that will be needed in order for it to fire up. Obviously one of the first things needed would be fuel, so once again we called upon Aeromotive to provide us with the best fueling parts in the industry. We snagged up one of their new X1 regulator, a Y splitter, a bunch of AN fittings, and a new Eliminator Fuel pump stepping up from their A1000 fuel pump the year before.
As well as fuel air is essential so we contacted Skunk 2 Racing to increase our throttle body diameter to match our inter cooler piping that Paul Leung of Yimi Sport Tuning was going to start on once the motor was installed. Fitment and instructions on the skunk2 unit was perfect and we popped it on with ease.

We picked up the biggest and baddest clutch Advanced Clutch Technology (ACT) has to offer for a Subaru! We were using a slightly lower version the year before and needed to upgrade to hold the power we were looking to make. Their monolock is something everyone should have and is now included in their kits.

At this point we decided that we wanted to go ahead and do a fuel cell in the car for the added safety as well to shave weight off the car… Soooo we started hacking away at the car again.

This put Paul into hyperdrive working on a mounting solution that would be as light as possible and yet strong enough to hold the weight of the fuel. We went with a Pyrotect 9.5 gallon tank to ensure that our fuel would continually flow to our engine.

Speaking of fuel flowing into the engine, we have been using Fuel Injector Clinic 2150cc injectors for the last 2 seasons and before that a smaller set of their injectors. They have been highly reliable and install perfectly everything. One item that Paul continually gripes about when people come in for tunes off the street is that they will have some off the wall brand or just some injectors that are not flowing or have poor spray characteristics.

The Struggle 2015 Vol. 3

At this time we are continually thinking that we are going to race soon… But this was only May. I was dreaming of racing at Road Atlanta with Global Time Attack but that time was about to pass and we were no where near complete, hell at this time we didn’t even have an engine to put in the car.

Since we were seeing more time needed for the engine we decided at that point to take on some other items such as changing up the front end a bit more which brought us to a decision that had to be made. We were toying with the idea of utilizing a water to air inter cooler setup which is more commonly used in drag racing than road racing but with the idea behind time attack being one flying all out lap it held some very interesting characteristics to it.

Also since we had some time on our hands we decided to take on the tast of removing the stock fuel tank and adding a Pyrotech fuel cell in an effort to be safer and lighter.

We called upon Aeromotive fuel systems to provide all the fuel hose, fittings and fuel pump. The Aeromotive Eliminator fuel pump is going to allow us to flow more than enough fuel whether we use the BorgWarner EFR 8374, 9174 or 9180 which was very important to us to have the availability to have options. The fuel cell is FIA approved and has internal baffling and check valves to protect against fuel starvation during all forms of G forces. As you might be able to tell Paul from Yimi Sport had his hands all over it fabricating the mount and keeping the weight low but not in the way of our future aero elements.

Paul had his hands full literally working on fabrication on the front of the car and the rear of the car as well as everything and anything in between. Here you see him test fitting the FMIC in a location that most people do not quite see it. You might notice that he has already welded on custom end tanks and is setting up to figure out how to mount it and a few other items along with it.

You can also see our very differently setup V mount or whatever you really want to call it. This was a complete Paul Leung brain child and believe me when I say I was consistently worried about how it would perform (although at the end it was so good that I couldn’t believe it). Rami with his aero guidance also was highly involved with decisions made on the front end of the car, reassuring that the design would work wonderfully.

In the early stages we still planned on using the stock front bumper that we used the year before, but then the more we looked at it we really needed to get a new one as we had already hacked it to bits. This brought us to the idea. Of running a zero sports replica unit.

And it goes on…
